Budapest was once home to the largest Jewish community in Europe and this has strongly influenced the city. After centuries of turbulent history, reaching its lowest point of devastation in the Holocaust, today's Budapest is a vibrant centre of Jewish culture. Discover Budapest in the footsteps of Jewish heritage and learn more about Jewish life in the past and present, visit the most important memorials, synagogues and places of Jewish life.

Day 1 Arrival in Budapest

Arrival at your hotel in Budapest. The remainder of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

In the evening welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant or at your hotel.

Overnight stay in Budapest.

Day 2 Budapest

After breakfast you discover the Jewish quarter of Budapest and visit the Great Synagogue as well as the Jewish Museum. Furthermore, you take a leisurly walk past the Rumbach Synagogue, the Kazinczy Synagogue as well as kosher grocery stores and restaurants and you learn more about Jewish life in past and present.

The Great Synagogue at Dohány Street is without any doubts one of the most considerable symbols of the former Jewry in Budapest. The three-aisled building was constructed based on the plans with a Moorish style drawn up by the German architect, Ludwig Förster. Today, Dohány Synagogue is home to a museum, attracting with constantly changing programs and exhibitions.

Shoes on the Danube Embankment (Holocaust Memorial): The Holocaust Memorial on the Danube embankment commemorates the Hungarian Jewish victims of the killings commited by the Arrow Cross militiamen, the pro-German, anti-Semitic, national socialist party members of Hungary in 1944-1945. The innocent victims were shot and thrown into the river Danube. The shoes on the Danube embankment have been made popular especially by foreign media.

Lunch at local restaurant.

In the afternoon you take a walk along the Danubebank to the Holocaust Memorial, shoes on the Danube. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure.

Day 3 Budapest

After breakfast you explore the most important sights of Budapest in the course of a panoramic city tour. Following, you visit the House of Terror Museum.

During a classic panoramic city tour you admire the most important attractions and monuments of the beautiful city on the river Danube. Cross the Daube to the Buda to admire the main sights of the Castle District -Matthias Church, Fishermen's Bastion and Gellért Hill (Citadel). Enjoy a breathtaking view over to the Parliament located on the Pest side. Then continue to Pest, passing by the Market Hall, Heroe's Square and the City Park. Afterwards drive along Andrássy Avenue towards the Opera House and downtown Pest.

The House of Terror Museum is conceived as a memorial historical museum commemorating dreadful historical happenings. In addition to numerous audio and video documents on the disastrous regime of the Nazis and the Soviet Union, the cells can be visited.

Day 4 Departure from Budapest

After breakfast you start your homeward journey.
